Capitalism has been associated with great prosperity, but it has also generated great inequalities, both within societies and between nations. Recently, even staunch supporters of capitalism have questioned whether the system can both foster growth, innovation and wealth, while addressing society’s broader, basic needs.
This question is particularly relevant in China, which has traditionally combined a socialist state framework with experiments in capitalism, to bring the country within reach of middle income status. As China charts its path forward, capitalism’s ability to generate inclusive growth will come under intense scrutiny and debate.
CKGSB is pleased to invite Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild and Sir Evelyn de Rothschild to shed light on these questions in a discussion with CKGSB Professor Mei Jianping.
