KENT ONLINE: Sir Evelyn de Rothschild's educational legacy takes permanent form in a new LSE scholarship

A gift completed by the ERANDA Rothschild Foundation has given the London School of Economics and Political Science something universities rarely receive: a source of scholarship funding designed to last forever.
The £3 million endowment creates the Sir Evelyn de Rothschild Undergraduate Scholarship Programme, which will support three new UK undergraduates every academic year with no end date attached.
The programme carries the name of the financier and philanthropist who died in London in November 2022, and it channels his long involvement with the school into a single, renewable purpose. Rather than funding a fixed number of students and then closing, the endowment is built to renew each intake as the previous cohort graduates.
That design turns a personal association stretching back more than 50 years into a standing feature of undergraduate life at LSE.
